The convention that comes to you - be part of *Armchair BEA*!

Posted on 05:00 by Guy
Word's starting to get out about this, but just in case you haven't read about it yet:

Despite how it might feel if you read a lot of book blogs, not everyone is going to BEA and/or the Book Blogger Convention later this month - and shouldn't those of us who are staying home get to have some fun too?

Late last week, some Twittering book bloggers realized that while we might not be in New York City between May 25th and 28th, meeting bloggers and authors and collecting ARCs, we could try simulating the experience virtually - and thus Armchair BEA was born! (Thanks to Danielle for launching the idea and to Aarti for coining the name!)

If you're NOT going to New York City for Book Expo America and Book Blogger Con, you are cordially invited to be part of Armchair BEA, the book-lovers' convention that comes to you!

Want to create your "dream BEA" lineup, imagining the authors you'll meet and the books you'll get sneak peeks at? Here are the authors, books and panel discussions that will be featured at BEA to help you plan that. Looking for ideas and discussions about how to make your book blogging better? Check out the BBCon agenda for ideas.

During Armchair BEA, participants will have the chance to do guest posts and/or interviews on one another's blogs, create topical posts, and host or join giveaways (possibly via the Book Depository so international bloggers can join in more easily). We'll have graphics/buttons for you to grab for your blog (the first is displayed in this post), and we already have the Twitter hashtag #armchairBEA.

The tentative schedule of Armchair BEA events is:

  • Tuesday, May 25: BEA-related topic post
  • Wednesday, May 26: Blogger interviews/optional BEA topic post
  • Thursday, May 27: Giveaway Day/optional BEA topic post
  • Friday, May 28: BBCon-related topic post

If you're interested in being part of Armchair BEA, please complete this simple form (several bloggers are posting it, so please fill it out just once!) - if you're viewing this post in a feed reader and can't access the form, please click through to the original post. We'll follow up in a week or so with details about how interview partners will be assigned and guest posts can be arranged - giveaways will be at individual bloggers' discretion.

This has all sprouted very quickly and we're still working out the details as we go along, so please be patient with us, and hopefully it will turn out to be a few days of fun for all!
