BBAW is Coming Back - Awards and All!

Posted on 06:30 by Guy

It's barely summer yet, but some of us are already looking ahead to the fall, and the third annual Book Blogger Appreciation Week in September!
What:  Book Blogger Appreciation Week is a week-long festival celebrating the community of book bloggers and their contribution to preserving a culture of literacy through book reviews and recommendations, reading reflections, and general bookish chat.  BBAW events include daily blogging topics, blogger interview swaps, special guest posts, and so much more!

BBAW also includes an awards component.  For more information on the BBAW 2010 Awards and how to participate, please visit the BBAW 2010 Awards Blog.

Who:  If you self-identify as a book blogger, this festival is for you!  We have been excited to welcome participants from all over the world for past BBAWs.

When:  September 13-17, 2010.

Where: At the Book Blogger Appreciation Week blog.  You can participate in the comfort of your own home and the convenience of your own time zone.

Why:  Because book blogging is a fun and time intensive hobby that has created communities around books and played a crucial role in the continuing evolution of what books mean in our society.
BBAW's founder, Amy of My Friend Amy, announced a few new developments for this year (emphasis added):
The awards are completely different this year and it is the sincere hope that the new process will be embraced by book bloggers. You must register yourself for award consideration.

I have a fantastic executive board helping me this year...I am ecstatic that these ladies agreed to help out, since they are removing themselves from consideration for the awards by doing so, and in my humble opinion, they all have blogs that deserve awards! Candace of Beth Fish Reads, Ann of Books on the Nightstand, Katie of Babbling About Books and More, Dawn of She Is Too Fond of Books, Jennifer of Literate Housewife, and Nicole of Linus's Blanket are all working behind the scenes to coordinate volunteers, make plans, and ensure BBAW runs as smoothly as possible.
Unlike the generous and talented bloggers on the executive board, I'd kind of like to be considered for a BBAW Award. As part of the new registration process for BBAW,
"Book bloggers wishing to be considered for an award must announce their intent to register by publishing a post on their blog highlighting and linking to five past posts they feel distinguish their blog in their chosen niche."
The new process is explained more fully on the BBAW blog.

That's what I'm doing right now. I will be registering for BBAW and submitting these posts for consideration and admission to the Awards Longlist in the niche category of Best Eclectic Book Blog and the featured category of Best Written Book Blog:

Book Talk: *Still Alice*, by Lisa Genova
Book Talk: *The Sparrow*, by Mary Doria Russell
Book Talk (part 1): *In the Land of Believers*, by Gina Welch
Book Talk (part 2): On not believing what *Believers* believe
Book Talk: Betsy Ray grows up and leaves Deep Valley

(Note: All of these posts were written between October 2009 and May 2010, subsequent to BBAW 2009.)

The Longlist for each niche will be determined by BBAW registrants within that niche during July. Volunteer judging panels will evaluate the blogs on the Longlists to select the Shortlist finalists in August - at that point, all BBAW registrants can vote in all categories to choose the award winners!

Will you be joining the fun of BBAW? Hope to see you then!
