The Big Game's Over! Readathon post-game summary

Posted on 05:00 by Guy
The Big Game's On! Readathon is done...and I was off my game. It wasn't quite a blowout, but I didn't put up much of a fight.
Mini-Challenge #1: Predict the Winner: Take a look at the books you plan on reading today.  Which do you predict will come out as the winner and why?  Do a post to answer this question.
I didn't participate in the mini-challenge, as I planned to devote the day to just one book. If I finished it, I'd be the winner!

Well, I lost, but I have no regrets about the detour my day took.

I was reading an e-book so there are no page counts, but I covered about 15%, reading at intervals between 9 AM and 3 PM, and I'm well past the halfway point now. At 3 PM, my devotion to my reading was tested...by my devotion to my husband, and to The Doctor. I was easily tempted to watch two episodes from the fourth series of Doctor Who on DVD. After that, it was all too easy to keep going, as afternoon turned to evening and became a Doctor Who mini-marathon.

However, prior to my dalliance with the Doctor, I did make some headway on my current book. I've been working my way through Bill Bryson's At Home: A Short History of Private Life, which is enjoyable, but has no real central narrative, and that makes it a less than ideal Readathon choice. I knew that going in, but didn't really want to start something else, so I'm not that surprised by my results. It's not Mr. Bryson's fault that I was more drawn to David Tennant's (and my husband's) company than his...

Thanks to Jenn for hosting the Readathon!
