Sunday Salon: More reading, more listening, less 'riting ~ 3sg jef fery

Blogging slumps are rather unusual for me, but I think I might be in the midst of one. That may be hard to believe this week, since I have posts written and scheduled for most of it already, but I'm not feeling the itch to blog - or to keep up with the blogiverse - the way I normally do. It feels weird, and I hope it doesn't last very long...but I'm not going to torment myself over it while it does.

On the other hand, while I'm feeling less like writing, I'm feeling more like reading - and that's a good thing, because I'm - pardon the expression - booked up lately! I've got two online book discussions this month, my own group read of The Handmaid's Tale to get underway - will you join us? We'll start the week of August 21 - and September book reviews due for Shelf Awareness. (I have a post in mind about how that works, by the way - I think some of y'all might be interested in how it differs from independent book blogging - but it's one of the things I don't actually feel much like writing right now.)

Image by Beverly Public Library, MA via FlickrI am gradually becoming a real audiobook convert - and, of course, kicking myself for all the commuting hours I wasted not listening to books! One reason I'm enjoying them is that I think they may turn out to be the key, even more than e-books, to my being able to read two books at the same time! My monogamous reading habits haven't always been entirely by choice, so this is a breakthrough.

However, I'm somewhat challenged in figuring out the best way to work them into my reading rotation. About half of the audios I've picked up are books that were in the long-term TBR already; I'm glad to catch up on them at last, but am not sure how many duplicates I really want. On the other hand, I'm not feeling the urge to explore new-to-me genres and authors on audio in preference to print yet; on top of that, it seems that the voice narrator is at least as important as the writer with an audiobook, and I'm wondering how much that should drive my choices. I am definitely open for suggestions here, audiobookies, so share in the comments, please!
