Week-End Review: TWO Questions of the Week, plus links and Randomness GALORE!

Posted on 05:00 by Guy

Question of the Week:
What was the #1 song on the day you were born?

In case you didn't know, I had a birthday earlier this week, so when NPR's Monitor Mix blog pointed me to the This Day in Music website, I thought it would be fun to see what song topped the charts on the day I was born. Four guys from Liverpool, England had the #1 song in the USA on March 29, 1964:
"Can't Buy Me Love" - The Beatles

I sort of knew that already, as a near-lifelong Beatles fan, pop-culture vulture, and adolescent devotee of Casey Kasem's "American Top 40," but I just wasn't sure which Beatles song it was.

If you were born anywhere between February and early May 1964, you were born during a period when Beatles songs held the #1 spot on the US record charts for 14 weeks straight. (During a couple of those weeks, they monopolized the top spots down to #4 or #5).

The Beatles were also at #1 in their own country with that same song on the day I was born. The had the #1 record in Australia that day too, with the double-A-side single "I Saw Her Standing There/Love Me Do." Yes, they were on the verge of world domination, why do you ask?

If you don't mind showing your age, go and see what song was #1 on the day you were born, then come back here and tell me!

Bonus Question of the Week:
What fictional character - from any medium: books, movies, TV, comics - would you most like to meet? (This is the topic of the new Weekend Assignment, and I'm looking for a little inspiration, to be honest - I'm having a hard time making up my mind!)

Hearing about how much people suck is starting to...well, suck

Have you completed your 2010 Blog Census yet? Or have you been too busy neglecting your blog, lured away by Twitter and Facebook and Foursquare (oh my!)? If so, check out these tips for winning followers and influencing other bloggers (please note that this WAS posted on April Fool's Day, and proceed accordingly...)

Also on the bloggy beat: Need to update your review policy? Here's some inspiration for you!

Baseball season is about to start again! (I probably won't see any games except for Little League ones this year, since the Dodgers raised ticket prices, and I doubt I'll watch much of it on TV either, but I'll still claim it as my favorite sport)

Me: “Thanks for coming in today, sir. What can I do for you?”
Customer: “I can’t get this thing to work! I set up the password and now I can’t remember it.”
Me: “Alright, that’s an easy fix. Let’s go to the site to reset your password.”
(I guide the customer to the correct site and we get to the option to answer a secret question of the user’s choice. The question: ‘Am I a s***head?’)
Customer: “Hmm…” *types ‘No’*
Computer: “I’m sorry, the answer you have selected is incorrect. Please try again.”

Blogthings Quiz of the Week:

What Field of Science Are You?
You Are Astronomy
This world is not enough for you... literally. You can't help but wonder about what else is out there.
You're the type of person who believes that anything is possible, and you'd like to prove it.

You are also quite philosophical. You spend a lot of time wondering about our place in the world, how the universe was started, and what the future holds.
You may not ever get all the answers you seek, and that's fine with you. Questioning is part of the journey.

Well, there are definitely times I'm spacey....

Friday Fill-ins #170

Friday Fill-Ins

1. All you need is whatever it takes. (Is that vague enough for you?)
2. Listening to the zingers fly when my family gets together fills me with laughter.
3. Each generation, as it grows up, fails to appreciate something about the generation before.
4. Feeling overwhelmed in crowded, strange places is something I have a hard time dealing with.
5. A trip to the grocery store is what I need. (Well, not really. Yes, kind of. The refrigerator needs me to go, anyway.)
6. Give someone a smile, and you get back.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to getting home and packing my bags, tomorrow my plans include a trip to Grandma's house for Easter weekend and Sunday, I want to help make breakfast in her awesome kitchen!

"Hoppy" Easter, and have a great weekend!
